it's been a long time since I last blogged but I have some very exciting news!

we found a house! two weeks from today {prayerfully} we will be closing on our new home. we couldn't be more excited or more ready for this move. and so so thankful for the beautiful house we will soon be calling home. and it's 100% the reason I've been neglecting my blog. it's literally all I can think about right now....

with that being said; this, according to my phone, is what we've been up to lately:

and if you follow me on Instagram you've already seen a good many of these pics, so sorry for the redundancy :)

we've definitely kept busy this last month or so! tis the season for lots of fun activities and busyness. it's the most wonderful time of the year, of course.

I can't wait to share our new home with my readers here and welcome my friends and family in our home. we are set to move sometime in January (after we have a few things done at the house) and then we will be busy unpacking, decorating and settling in. we are almost doubling the size of our existing house, so there will be lots of space to fill and I couldn't be more excited! lots of pinterest perusing and google searching has been going on in my little bit of free time.

What I Wore {Sunday Fur}

SundayFur01this vest: one of the few reasons I've been excited about cooler days. I may have jumped the gun a little but was too excited to wear it; so on sunday, when it was sunny and low 60s (the most beautifully perfect fall temperature), I decided to wear it anyway and paired it with cropped jeans and open toe shoes. church had the AC cranked up so I was happy to have it during the service but ditched it as soon as we left. it will be wonderfully warm on winter-cold days.
SundayFur02SundayFur04probably one of, if not the most versatile piece hanging in my closet. ANYONE can wear fur. ANYONE. I love how it works for anyone in pretty much any situation. you can wear this with a chambray and sneaks or dress it up for a holiday party. I recently bought my mom one for her birthday and it looks so cute on her. definitely age appropriate style for everyone!

happy halloween 2015

we had such a fun weekend, dressing up, trick-or-treating, and hanging out with family and friends. Elle Louise looooooooooves candy! she counted her loot last night and she acquired 107 pieces of candy this weekend and you better believe she knows exactly what she has. she doesn't love the chocolate candy so much, so she shares that with us but she would eat every last piece of what she does like. what do you do with all the candy? as soon as halloween is over, I just want it OUT OF MY HOUSE, because I don't want the kids to just have it at their disposal and I end up eating WAY TOO much of it!! I usually let Elle pick out her a few favorites and throw the rest away. Harry's too young to know what he wants to keep so I'll pick out a little bit for him too and keep it in my purse for bribes while shopping.

on saturday we went to our friends house for dinner and trick-or-treating in their neighborhood but on our way over there stopped at my grandparents' house to trick-or-treat and grab a few pics in their tree-covered front yard.

as you can see the kids were less than cooperative and it was pretty gloomy outside so our 6-year old dslr was having some issues with all the movement :)

halloween2015_03Elle loved her skirt so much! it was all her idea to be "sandy" and she looked so precious in her poodle skirt :). this was elle's 6th year dressing up for halloween and my first year making her costume. it's definitely much easier to buy something already made but I loved getting to making this skirt for her.

I made the Poodle Skirt pattern by Mack & Lily on etsy {here}. such a cute and easy pattern. Harry's outfit was so quick and easy to pull together. the moment elle told me so wanted to be a 50s girl, the leather jacket {here} for Harry popped in my mind and I ordered it right away. it's so cute!

hope you all had a wonderful halloween weekend!! so crazy that it's already november and 8 weeks until Christmas! we are going to be busy, busy from here until the first of the year.

happy monday!

Five Things Friday

5things_friday_homelandI wish I never would have started watching this. I am OBSESSED. It's so so good. We only have a free 30-day trial for Showtime and I'm trying to fit in 4 seasons in 30 days. I'm not sure what I'm going to do when the trial is up and I can't watch the latest season.

5things_friday_baber15things_friday_baberWho is watching The Voice? We aren't only because our antenna doesn't pick up NBC, but I've been contemplating purchasing Hulu so we can stream it. Barrett Baber, Arkansas native, is on it this season. He was picked by Blake and is well on his way! We got to listen to him sing and meet him (and come to find out his wife purchased a romper from me for their baby girl over the summer and I'm just putting two and two together. such a fun and unexpected connection.) last weekend at a charity event in Springdale. A very short meet and greet, but so nice and funny. As you can tell in the picture. He had Sarah and I in stitches. Even though I don't know him I am so excited for him and his wife and family. Can you imagine? So awesome! If you don't watch The Voice, look him up on You Tube. He's so talented!

Did a little shopping this past weekend and subconsciously bought all neutrals! I really need to make more of an effort to add color to my wardrobe but neutrals are just so easy. And don't you just love that fur vest? I'm so excited to wear it. The only reason I'm ready for cold weather is that vest.

5things_friday_aloveslAnna at A Loves L [here] made this awesome water color of us at the beach this summer! How much do you love it? I think it is so fun and the perfect addition to our gallery wall! She is so amazing and so affordable. Her custom watercolors would be the perfect Christmas gift for that person who has everything!! speaking of Christmas...can't believe its only a couple of months away

A few weeks ago we looked at a gorgeous home with a lot of outdoor living space. We made an offer on it but it didn't work out but now outdoor living space is way up there on my "must have" list. I started pinning inspiration for outdoor living and have absolutely fallen in love with the idea. Now when looking at homes if there isn't a place to expand and live outside I move right on to the next possibility. These outdoor spaces are so dreamy. So hopeful for a place like this!

Well, my H-man was sick AGAIN this week. Fever. Cough. Runny nose. Yuck yuck yuck. Have such a love/hate relationship with fall for the one reason that it's so hard to stay healthy. Ugh. We have stayed home ALL week again and now I am going stir crazy! We have a full weekend and I welcome it with open arms!

Have a great weekend.

Family Pictures

This picture cracks me up! Amber texted me the morning she put the pictures on her website and said that it was a "definitely more candid" set than usual. And yes I would definitely have to agree with her 100%. Harry WAS NOT COOPERATING at all and neither were his awesome transition lens (that's a whole other story.....). But despite what I witnessed with Amber trying to get pictures of my kids they definitely turned out so good and I could not be happier with them!

I look at this picture and swell with pride. I'm so thankful for these two that are so full of life and personality! You just can't help but smile when you are around them. Precious (& sometimes super rotten) little humans.

Elle Louise rocked the photo shoot like she always does. We can always depend on her to turn on the charm and smiles!

If I had to pick a favorite of her, this one would have to be it. She radiates such joy and beauty! I want to be Elle Louise when I grow up :)

OOOOOH HARRY. How my heart melts at the sight of him. But oh HOW ORNERY and STUBBORN he is! And those darn glasses...... This is by far the best picture of him from the shoot and I love it so much!

Ugh, the one of Aaron and Elle. So precious. I pray they always have the easy, fun-loving relationship they have now! And of course, I pray Harry will always love me as much as he does now :)

Love this one of Elle and Harry! Happy, happy!

And, the picture that made all the stress and chaos of the photo shoot SO WORTH IT! Pure perfection. I'm currently having wallpaper made out of it :)

Local peeps, check Amber Dickey [here] out (if you haven't already).  She is so good. So creative (I mean look at the field with the purple flowers she found!). So sweet. So patient. So affordable and your kids will LOVE her. I'm sure her fall sessions are filling up fast, so if you need pics get in contact with her.

Happy Tuesday! (<-- and WHAT ITS ONLY TUES?)

Banana Oatmeal Muffins

We love anything banana around here, and this recipe is so easy and has become my go-to for banana muffins. I got it from a cookbook my aunt gifted me when Aaron and I got married 8 summers ago and I've only recently made the muffins and since have made them a couple of times a week.

My kids LOVE these and eat them up within DAYS. They are so perfect for breakfast or for a snack.

Banana Oatmeal Muffins
makes 12 muffins

1 cup oatmeal
1/2 sour milk (1 2/3 tsps vinegar added to lukewarm milk)
1 egg
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 mashed ripe bananas
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking poweder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 cup chopped nuts of choice (I like walnuts and pecans)

preheat oven to 400ยบ. mix ingredients in order they are given. if using a hand or stand mixer select the lowest setting. fill greased muffin tins (you can use papers if you like) 2/3 full and bake for 15-20 minutes. my oven cooks fast so my muffins only take 15 minutes to bake.

Fall Pictures {Outfit Inspiration}

A couple of weekends ago we had our fall family pictures. There's nothing worse than being cold when you're having your pictures taken so I planned ours early so that there would be no way that we would be cold and miserable. And now I'm so glad to have them out of the way. I still haven't seen them, and my kids were not very cooperative, and Harry's glasses kept transitioning, but I am confident they will be so good as always. We used Amber Dickey [here] again, and always will as long as she keeps doing them. She really is the best and sent me a sneak peak the night of the pictures to calm me. And it was so good. So I know that there is one good one for Christmas cards.

Going in to pictures I wanted us all to wear really rich, jewel tones but couldn't really find anything that I just loved for Elle and Harry so I picked out Elle's outfit first: pink fur skirt with a denim button up and floral boots. Harry's outfit next: orange plaid and skinny jeans. And then when shopping for myself. I had one shirt from Maude in mind, but when I walked in the store I saw the cutest floral peplum-ish top that coordinated well with Elle and Harry so got that instead. Aaron picked out his outfit the day of, he can always find something that coordinates so I never worry about him.

I absolutely love coordinating outfits and of course shopping for family pictures. I thought it would be fun to put together a few fun sets to maybe help inspire outfits for your family pictures this year...

fall family pictures
Bright and bold. This what I was envisioning but our outfits didn't quite come together like this. I do think what we wore looked nice together and will look good in the pictures.

fall family dressy
Love this more glamorous set. I would love to do something like this one year. With an urban back drop, these pretty neutrals would really pop.

fall family rugged
Casual, comfortable and cute. Love this rugged look. Last year we all wore different plaids and had our pictures in front of a barn and they were so good.

Here are some of our family pictures from the last few years....

Goodness. Amber is so so good! I can't pick a favorite year. Love this little growing family of mine :)

Happy Wednesday!!

What I Wore {Always Stripes}

We celebrated my best friend Sarah's birthday Saturday night. Four fun couples out for a couple drinks and dinner afterward. It was a good time. The kids stayed the night with my parents and I was SO looking forward to getting to sleep in on Sunday but woke up at 6:45. Go figure. And then Monday morning overslept and got Elle to school late. Funny how that works out. Ha!

Eyes closed. Mid sentence. Either blurry or this. Yep, these pictures are amaze. I'm so photogenic...

We were already running late to meet friends so I just had Aaron snap these pictures right by where we parallel parked the car on a downtown street and only just noticed the camera was on a weird setting, so yea....not great pictures. Oh well. You win some, you lose some. But I just couldn't let this outfit go to waste! :)

Five Things Friday

I saw The Intern this week. SO GOOD. Feel good, heart-string tugging, good. Go see it. Very funny too, so I think it would be a good date night movie. Adam DeVine from Pitch Perfect is in it and he is so funny. I snorted a few times :)

overthekneeOver-the-knee boots. Enough said. Except for I have more to say: I've wanted a pair for a couple of winters now! I talked about [here] how I was going to get a pair. And then I never did.... They are so fun. I'm just not sure I would get enough wear out of them to justify the purchase though. I am loving this pair by Seychelles Maude recently got [here]! But for $300 you've got to really really love them and know you'll wear them a lot. And, I just don't know that I would.

rainbowpadthaiI made this Rainbow Vegetarian Pad Thai this week and oh. my. yum. [Here] is the recipe. If you like Thai food at all you need to make this. So simple to make and you can get all the ingredients at the walmarts :). A little soakin of the noodles, choppin of the veggies (or thinly slicing rather, unless you are fancy and have a spiraler, then you'd be spiralin'), sautein, mixin and voila. So yummy! We had zero leftovers. And if you know Thai food, you know it is so good leftover so I was looking forward to some leftovers. But none. Zero. Zilch. A little disappointed but happy to feed my family a healthy dinner that they all loved. Love when they love what I prepare. Love love love. Love.

theArtofHearingHeartbeatsFinished [this] book last night. Please read it. It is a good book for the soul. I just started the sequel, A Well-Tempered Heart. So far, SO good. And I look forward to reading his murder-mystery, Whispering Shadows.

I've spent a lot of my downtime this week on pinterest, brainstorming Harry's big boy room! He's no where NEAR ready for the toddler/big boy bed but I know we'll soon (prayerfully!) be moving into a new house (and no we are not under contract on a house but I remain hopeful) and I want to have a direction set out for his room so that I can have painters paint before we move in. Unless its new construction I'll be getting every square foot of the house painted :) because I HATE TO PAINT. I am really loving the black accent wall for Harry. I just think it is so fun! And I LOVE the house bed (top left)! Aaron could totally build that. I can't wait to execute a planned-out room for Harry. Since we didn't with his "nursery", I really do look forward to it for his big boy room. Funny because Elle's nursery was well planned out but her big girl room was not. It was a throw-what-we-can-together-in-a-weekend project and it turned out perfectly. And I love Harry's room now, that was most definitely not planned out and is all hand-me-downs. So maybe there is something to be said for spur-of-the-moment design? But I will go into the next house with a direction for all the rooms.

And a bonus, because I love them so....

FriYAYElle is finishing up her SIXTH WEEK of kindergarten today! She has been in school SIX WEEKS. So crazy. We are so exceptionally proud of our sweet girl. She has taken kindergarten by storm. As we knew she most certainly would. She had her first book fair last week, brought home her first fundraiser, had our first parent-teacher conference (that went great), has her first field trip and holiday party coming up soon. Lots and lots of exciting firsts. This school thing is crazy fun. It's been better than we could have ever imagined.

Happy Friday, friends. Hope you have a great weekend.

What I Wore {Everyday Style}

Happy hump day!

Y'all the weather last week was amazing. I can't complain. I know some people are because it's been unseasonably warm but I am loving it. It has been in the 80s but the mornings have been cool and there's been a breeze. It's my perfect weather. Here are some of the, very colorless, outfits I wore last week...

My new favorite tee! I wore it yesterday too. Its so soft and I love the dolphin hem. Effortless to style.

Who's tired of seeing this shirt yet? Ha ha! Its just so easy!

Weekend style with my sweet babes. How stinkin' cute are Elle's flares?!

Sausage and Vegetable Skillet {a quick and easy dinner}

Hi there!

Its our second day of being confined to the house. Harry and I have the funk. Mine started Sunday morning and got worse yesterday and today. Harry's had a runny nose for about a week but now it's nice and yellow and accompanied by a cough. TIS THE SEASON. We both feel ok, just trying to stay in and away from people and hopefully it will go away. Harry's going a little stir crazy I can tell, he keeps asking me about the gym and bible study but I figure the moms appreciate me not bringing my snotty nosed child around for a few days...

Do you buy the Wild Oats organic brand that Walmart carries? If not, you should (and this is not a sponsored post, btw) I absolutely love it. Its extremely affordable for organic and I've noticed with every trip to the store WO seems to have more product on the shelves.

A few weeks ago I was making a penne recipe for dinner so I purchased the Wild Oats penne and noticed a recipe on the back for Sausage Saute, so the following week I made the recipe on the back of the box, with a few additions and subtractions :)

Such an easy week night dinner to whip up for your family!

sausagesaute02Sausage & Vegetable Saute

Wild Oats penne rigate
1 pound turkey sausage, cut into 1/2" slices (thicker or thinner according to your liking)
olive oil
1 small head broccoli, cut into florets
1 red bell pepper, roughly chopped
1 yellow bell pepper, roughly chopped
2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
1/2 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Parmesan cheese, shredded

start boiling the water for the penne (my oven takes forever to boil a pot of water-so if you have a quick boil oven then wait to do this a little later). heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large saute pan over medium heat. add the veggies and saute for 2-3 minutes until they start to tender. add sausage and cook until starting to brown, about 7 minutes. you will probably need to add 1-2 more tablespoons of olive oil. lower heat and stir in Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes (eliminate if you don't like spice, add more if you if want to turn up the heat) and keep cooking on low heat. cook your penne while all the flavors are melding, I like for my pasta to be a little firm so I only cook 8-9 minutes, I think package might say 9-11 minutes. When penne is done, drain and with sausage saute and parmesan cheese!

We had ours with garlic knots [here] (they cook in the bag!) and a kale Caesar salad (kale, red onion, parmesan cheese, croutons, brianna's caesar dressing <-- my favorite),
