Five Things Friday

The Crown. Who's watching/watched it? It's my new favorite. I watched all 10 episodes of the first (and only right now) season in 3 days. Yes, 3 days. Lots of late nights. But I couldn't stop. The only down side to binge watching it, is that I have to wait until November for Season 2. I'll probably watch Season 1 again, I loved it that much. I've always been so intrigued with Queen Elizabeth and the royal family and this show seems pretty close to accurate. I would pause throughout to google and read more about something that happened or one of the characters and it seemed right on with what I read on the internets. And you know the internets never lie. Either way, fascinating stuff.

Well, gone are the days of cute little birthday parties for my sweet little girl, WHO WILL BE SEVEN IN 3 WEEKS! After getting a couple emoji-themed presents for Christmas she became emoji-obsessed. So when I asked her what she wanted to do for her party, she of course said she wanted all things emoji. I've managed to get away with limiting the emojis to the cake, cookies and invites but today she asked me why the plates and napkins didn't have emojis on them.

Today I am painting Harry's room! Ugh. I've been dreading it all week. I am excited to have it done but getting there is going to be painful.... We decided on the dark blue/green color thinking it would disguise dirt better. Harry is filthy and could care less, so his walls are already pretty dingy just after a year of living in our house. But now that I'm getting ready to paint I'm slightly regretting not doing a gray color. I like light and airy and I'm hoping this color is not too bold and dark. Once its done its done though because I won't be painting it ever again. Next time it will be painted is when Harry's old enough to care and then he can paint it himself.

Whistling Past the Graveyard by Susan Crandal

I just finished this book and it was so good. Heartwarming and sweet but also with moments of suspense. If you are looking for a new book, I highly suggest you read it! I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I resolved in the New Year to shop less. But Maude is making it SO. DANG. HARD. Dying over all their new arrivals. All the new shoes are killing me, especially all the Dolce Vita sneaks. I think my favorite would have to be the top left style. I would wear them every day. But, I'm not going to get them. I'm going to practice a little self control. Crying all the while.

I am so thankful it is Friday. T.G.I.F. Truly. Thanking God it is Friday! It has been a super long week. And I'm ready for a little R&R. Hopefully I get Harry's room done today so I can actually veg out some this weekend.

My Favorite Christmas Present

My family did good with my Christmas gift this year. I've been hinting around for the last few months how I would love a coffee Ninja Coffee Bar. I kind of figured that Aaron wouldn't get one because our Keurig is only 2 years old but they delivered and I love it. It is so fun. The day I took it out of the box I made approximately 8 specialty drinks and I was so caffeinated I couldn't sleep that night! But they were just too fun to make that I kept making one after another. The Ninja came with a recipe book loaded with different coffee drinks. I didn't (and still don't) have any syrups so I've been limited on the drinks I can make but so far my favorite ones that I've made are the simple au lait (espresso + frothed milk) and the cafe con miel au lait (espresso + honey + cinnamon + frothed milk). As I am typing this I'm drinking an au lait. And dare I say they are 100 times better than Starbucks coffees. I even made a pumpkin spice latte even though I'm not a huge fan because I had the ingredients on hand and it wasn't too bad. The Ninja recipe calls for pumpkin spice seasoning and half and half not a sugary syrup so I actually liked it.

Now that I have this awesome coffee maker I want an equally awesome coffee station. But the problem is the space where I keep my coffee maker is small but its the perfect spot because it has a single cabinet above it and a drawer and cabinet below to keep my beans, grounds, teas, cups, etc. So I'm going to have to get creative to make it pretty and functional all the while not looking cluttered.

These small space coffee bars are all so pretty, clean and functional. I love them all. Now to get going on my little coffee bar.

Harry's Bedroom

It's Wednesday! And, for me, that means my children are back in school. It's kind of a bittersweet day really. We've had the best time the past two weeks. The first two days were rough with the sibling fights and the running of a gazillion errands trying to get ready for Christmas but once we got that out of our system we had the best time. Aaron actually got the Friday before Christmas off and just went back to work yesterday so we have had some good family QT and it's been really good for the soul.

Our days consisted of sleeping in, lounging around, going to the movies, watching new movies that Santa brought, playing with Junie, cleaning house, making room for new toys, playing with said new toys, finishing a few projects around the house, cleaning the garage, eating out too much, trying to find Aaron a new car, and so on and so forth. It seemed busy but it really wasn't. So back to reality today is going to be rough.

We are having Elle's birthday party at our house in a few weeks (how is my baby girl almost 7?) so I would like to get a few projects finished before we have company. And one of the things is Harry's bedroom. I really wanted to tackle it over the break but he's been having the best time playing in his room with all his new toys (hello, Batman Batcave, best Christmas present ever!) so I just decided to let him be and have his room over the break and work on it when he started back to school. SO, I'm hoping next week I can get it done.

In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to share my ideas for his bedroom with you.

We have it all ready to go. Except for wall art, I'm going to wait until I get the room painted and everything put in it's place to figure all that out. But we have the bed, bedding, dresser (Aaron put it together on Monday!), paint for the walls (it's a really dark teal navy color, kind of hard to explain) and teepee (Santa brought it!). Harry is all set to have a super cute big boy room for sure. He just needs his lazy mom to get it done for him.

Maybe by posting my ideas it will motivate me to get it done sooner than later so that I can share it with you :)

2 0 1 7

"Let this coming year be better than all the others. Vow to do some of the things you have always wanted to do but could not find the time. Call up a forgotten friend. Drop an old grudge, and replace it with some pleasant memories. Vow not to make a promise you do not think you can keep. Walk tall and smile more. You will look 10 years younger. Do not be afraid to say I love you. Say it again. They are the sweetest words in the world" -Ann Landers

HAPPY 2017 sweet friends. 2016 was such a good year for our family and I can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for us this new year. I pray that this year is full of many blessings for us.

I dare not make resolutions because I have a hard time keeping them but when I saw this quote from Ann Landers I knew it would be my mantra for this year.

I want to be better and work harder. I want to spend less money and be more content with what I have. I want to work on the hard relationships and cherish the easy ones. I want to finish the projects that I've started around the house. I want to have people over more. I want to blog more. And I want everything that is quoted above for 2017. And I'm going to try my hardest to get Elle through this second semester with no tardies. Ha ha!

It's going to be a great year, I can feel it in my bones.
